'Wyrd Sisters' opens at Saint Sebastian Players

October 2004

The Saint Sebastian Players (SSP) open their 24th season with the internationally popular "Wyrd Sisters," written by Terry Pratchett and adapted by Stephen Briggs. Performances run Oct. 22 through Nov. 14 at the Saint Sebastian Players theatre at St. Bonaventure, 1625 W. Diversey Ave. On Halloween weekend performances, SSP will give $2 off a full-priced ticket to anyone who attends in costume!

On Discworld, a unique universe supported by four giant elephants and carried through space on the back of a great space turtle, murder, mayhem and the arrival of a royal baby cause trouble in the little kingdom of Lancre. And who stands between the kingdom and destruction? Three witches! Pratchett's "Wyrd Sisters" is inspired by Shakespeare's "Macbeth" turned on its ear. It's all there—a wicked duke and duchess, the ghost of the murdered king, dim soldiers, strolling players, a land in peril—but in its own humorous, fantastical way.

Directing "Wyrd Sisters" is SSP member Rob DeBock, who also directed SSP's production of the female version of Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple." The cast features SSP member Meg Cummings, SSP member Heather McConaha and Amy Majernik as the title characters; SSP members Connie Anderko and Jeff M. Galus; and Brittani Ebert, Terrence L. Gallagher, Wil Kraven, Tina Lavis, Chad Newman, Jen Pepsnik, Sarah R. Pond, M. Brandon Thompson, Michael P. Wilkins and Michael Zubb. Jonathan Hagloch is technical director/set designer, McConaha also is handling costumes, Mary Whalen is set dressing/properties manager and Sharon Sullivan is producer.

SSP's 2004-2005 season continues with the musical "Pippin," by Stephen Schwartz Feb. 18-March 13, 2005 and William Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor" June 3-26, 2005. Subscriptions are $27, a 25 percent savings on full-priced tickets. The annual Monologue Matchup competition, a fund-raiser inviting actors to compete with their best monologues for a panel of distinguished directors, takes place Monday, Oct. 25.

Performances of "Wyrd Sisters" are Oct. 22-Nov. 14, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Saint Sebastian Players Theatre at St. Bonaventure, 1625 W. Diversey Ave., at Marshfield just west of Ashland Ave. Free parking is available in two lots. Tickets are $12, $5 for seniors and children under 12. Group rates also are available.
